English Skills For Class XI
English Skills for Class XI is written for students of Intermediate level in Pakistani colleges. The book follows the student learning outcomes (SLOs) and competencies as given in the 2006 National Curriculum for English Language, approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad.
Pakistani students studying at the intermediate level will be familiar with the selection of themes and topics. The primary focus is to introduce students to the major language skills of reading and writing. The listening and speaking skills as well as vocabulary and grammar are also thematically linked.
Each Skill Set is divided into the following sections:
Tune in and Listen
Short and practical Listening and Speaking transcripts are given in each
Studentʼs Book and can easily accessed on: https://oup.com.pk/english-skills-for-class-xi-audio.
Read Well
A variety of literary and general texts across the book guide students in
comprehension and analysis, as well as exposure to world experience and appreciation of the written word.
Language in Use
Grammatical structures have been specially chosen for their functions.
The exercises are presented from simple to more advanced, and are in
context.
A Way into Words
There are a variety of vocabulary building exercises developed with
special attention to improving pronunciation, intonation, and
dictionary/thesaurus usage.
Write Well
In this section, the aim is to activate and facilitate the writing process by guiding students through all the stages from brainstorming to revising and editing. There are practice exercises for each stage.
Something Different to Do
Each Skill Set ends with an interesting task that gives students
opportunities to work collaboratively and encourages their initiative and
individual talents.
