About the role
OUP Pakistan (OUPP) is seeking an experienced Security Specialist who will also oversee the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) to join our expanding Reassurance team as Security & HSE.
Overall, this individual will be responsible for managing the Security Function of OUP across Pakistan and additionally managing the HSE programs / activities / resources nationwide and maintaining good cordial relationship with Law Enforcement Agencies with reference to OUP’s administrative / operational / anti-piracy needs and support.

Being part of the Security & HSE function, the role will require the following:

  • Considering Pakistan’s local norms and security situation, role requires specialised focus on Security Management / Foreign guests’ coordination and managing their personal security / coordinating with law enforcement agencies, security networking across country professionals and international forums and doing all needful to ensure better security across OUPP operations and of OUP team in Pakistan.
  • Provide competent advice and support to leadership teams / OUP Staff on Security and HSE, enabling them to meet company objectives towards Security & HSE with continuous improvement in performance and ongoing legal compliance;
  • Leading the Security & HSE team and management of day-to-day coordination of Security & HSE activities across Pakistan, working closely with Line Manager to ensure a consistent and proactive approach;
  • Develop working relationships/networking with Security & HSE professionals and external businesses, identifying and utilizing opportunities to benchmark policies and procedures, where possible;
  • Visualize, propose, and execute corporate Security & HSE strategy and induction of Security & HSE best practices throughout the organization; deploy Security & HSE tools, adopt a "hands on" approach to the development and implementation of local solutions;
  • Supporting protection of the anti-piracy team as back up resource and providing necessary coordination and support to this team in their dealings with Law Enforcement Agencies across Pakistan.
  • Build trusted and respected relationships and support management in terms of cultural change (w.r.t the current COVID-19 pandemic) to OUP’s health and safety requirements;
  • Participate in the accident and incident investigation and management process, helping minimize their impact on people and the business, mitigating liability risk and ensuring prevention of recurrence thorough root cause analysis and sharing of learning throughout operations;
  • Conduct inspections to identify process weaknesses and recommend solutions for corrective actions to ensure compliance with the OUP’s Security & HSE Management System and local legal requirements;
  • Plan and organize regular training/refreshers of employees in Security & HSE, fire handling / fighting, SOPs, etc.; develop Emergency Response plans, ensuring Security & HSE drills are conducted and corrective actions are identified and implemented;
  • Plan and lead the implementation of Business Continuity Planning of OUP under the supervision of line management.

About you

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Security Specialist profile with Armed Forces background (preferred).
  • At least Bachelor’s degree with HSSE Certification / Diploma (NEBOSH Certification or equivalent is desired but not mandatory) with the right skills / experience.
  • At least 5-8 years of Security (must), health, safety, and environment experience in corporate sector.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in Urdu and English languages; other local regional language skills is a plus.
  • Experience of Security management and coordination with Law Enforcement Agencies, people handling and leading regional teams.

The role will be responsible for providing services to internal departments, copyright clearance, art/photo/text acquisition and research. The incumbent will have to do the following:

  • Accountable for clearing third party permissions for OUP Pakistan publishing team.
  • Clearing permissions for text, images, videos and other digital asses, performing photo research, fee negotiations with rights holders, contributing to savings.
