2025-06-24 12:37:00 DawnMedia and Oxford University Press Pakistan Launch Mycelium Warrior Competition to promote Climate Awareness among Young Learners

DawnMedia, under its flagship climate change initiative Breathe Pakistan, announces the Mycelium Warrior Competition for the children of Pakistan. The competition will be jointly launched by Dawn Young World and Oxford University Press Pakistan (OUPP) to foster climate awareness among young children. To mark this collaboration, an MoU signing was held today between DawnMedia Group and Oxford University Press Pakistan.

Pakistan remains increasingly vulnerable to the devastating effects of climate change, facing record-breaking heatwaves, destructive hail and windstorms, water scarcity, and extreme weather events that threaten lives, infrastructure, and livelihoods. We are now moving forward from the Breathe Pakistan climate change conference towards more concrete steps to educate the youth and bring this critical issue to the forefront.

Breathe Pakistan is an initiative by DawnMedia dedicated to creating awareness and advocacy around the impact of climate change in Pakistan. Breathe Pakistan aims to bring together the public, private sector, government institutions, and climate change experts under a single-point agenda to find viable solutions. A significant part of the conversation also focuses on children, as they are the future.

DawnMedia and Young World in collaboration with Oxford University Press Pakistan, will engage children aged 7–14 in the climate conversation through the Breathe Pakistan ‘Be a Mycelium Warrior’ campaign. They aim to reach over 10,000 students across 150–200 schools in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Using interactive activities and storytelling focused on tree planting, recycling, and water conservation, the initiative aims to cultivate lifelong environmental stewardship.

DawnMedia leverages its strategic partnership with Oxford University Press to sustain the momentum and drive meaningful change for a sustainable Pakistan. “The fight against climate change must continue,” says a DawnMedia spokesperson. “Through awareness, education, and collaboration, we can forge a sustainable future.

”Arshad Saeed Husain, Managing Director of Oxford University Press Pakistan, said, “We are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental education. Through our Oxford International Primary Sustainability Project resources and our extensive school network, we aim to inspire and empower children across Pakistan to become responsible stewards of the planet.”

This competition aims to empower students aged 7–14 to become heroes for the planet by completing fun, eco-friendly challenges such as saving water, recycling, creating art, and planting trees. Each completed challenge earns students’ cool badges, a Mycelium Warrior certificate, and exciting prizes, instilling in them a sense of responsibility in the fight against climate change.
