Professor Iftikhar H. Malik, FRHistSoc, has taught modern history at Bath Spa University since 1995. He previously held the Quaid-i-Azam Chair at St. Antony’s College, Oxford, and is a long-standing Member of the Common Room at Wolfson College, Oxford. Trained at Michigan State, Columbia, and UC Berkeley, Malik has authored 17 books, numerous chapters, 75 scholarly papers, and over 250 review articles. His recent works include Pashtun Identity and Geopolitics in Southwest Asia (2016), Pakistan: Democracy, Terror and the Building of a Nation (2010), The History of Pakistan (2008), and Crescent between Cross and Star (2006). Earlier titles such as Jihad, Hindutva, and the Taliban (2005), Islam and Modernity (2004), Islam, Nationalism and the West (1999), and State and Civil Society in Pakistan (1997) reflect his enduring engagement with South Asian politics, Muslim identity, and global modernity.
