English Skills for Class XII with CD
English Skills for Class XII is the second volume of a two-part series written for students of intermediate level in Pakistani colleges. The book follows the student learning outcomes (SLOs) and competencies as given in the 2006 National Curriculum for English Language, approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad, and the 2012 Revision of Aga Khan University Examination Board, 2007 syllabus.
Pakistani students studying at the Intermediate level will be familiar with the selection of themes and topics. The primary focus is on learning and application of the many skills required in all aspects of language acquisition. The development of the student into an independent learner has been given prime importance with revision of learning skills in both the books.
Each Skill Set is divided into the following sections:
Tune in and Listen
Short and practical Listening and Speaking tasks which can be easily incorporated in daily social and academic lives. A CD containing the transcripts is included with each Student’s Book.
Read Well
A variety of literary and general texts across the book guide students in comprehension and analysis, as well as exposure to world experience and appreciation of the written word.
Language in Use
Grammatical structures have been specially chosen for their functions. The exercises are presented from simple to more advanced, and are in context.
A Way into Words
There are a variety of vocabulary building exercises developed with special attention to improving pronunciation, intonation, and dictionary/thesaurus usage.
Write Well
The extended writing section breaks up writing tasks into easily learned units; each mini-unit has many practice exercises proceeding from simple to more advanced, with samples of creative/narrative writing, different essay types, reports, resumes, and letter/blog writing.
Something Different to Do
This section has interesting tasks for students to work on collaboratively and with the use of technology, thus encouraging the development of initiative and individual talent.
