Pirated materials seized from a printer in Lahore

Lahore, 20 Dec.: As a part of the efforts to counter book piracy, Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) along with Eagle Services Provider—a security concern engaged in providing anti-piracy services in Pakistan—conducted a successful raid on a printing press operating under the name NA Printing Co. situated in Usman Center, 2 Royal Park, where a large number of illegal printing and binding work was in progress.

The counterfeited material of Oxford textbooks recovered from the printing press included 25,000 firmas of Simply Science, 160 jackets of Number Songs, 1949 jackets of Computer Whiz, and 140 printing plates of Computer Whiz, New Oxford Modern English and Simply Science.

All the pirated material has been impounded by the FIA and the premises of the printing press has been sealed off. An FIR has been lodged against Shahnawaz, the supervisor of NA Printing Co. who was caught red handed at the press, as well as Rana Adnan, owner of NA Printing Co., and Kashif, owner of the pirated stock.

The accused have been charged with being involved in book piracy which constitutes a violation of the Copyright Laws of Pakistan and have been detained by the police for further interrogation. Such infringements of Intellectual Property Rights cause heavy losses to the publishing industry, the authors, the Pakistan government, as well as the parents and pupils who are cheated into buying sub-standard, pirated books.
