Oxford University Press organizes symposiums for school teachers

Muzaffarabad, 13-17 Oct.: As a part of its on-going programme to introduce the latest pedagogy and enhance teaching outcomes, Oxford University Press (OUP) is organizing two symposiums for school teachers on the theme ‘Promoting Student Success: Connect, Inspire, Transform’. The symposium, being held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir for the first time, will be conducted by OUP authors and trainers from Pakistan and UK.

The objective behind organizing the symposiums is to effectively address the need for teachers to play the role of a catalyst in transforming their students’ thinking and learning processes by inspiring greater curiosity and broader inquiry among them. Around 200 teachers from 29 cities and towns across Pakistan will attend the two separate events which will provide the participants and trainers a valuable platform to share ideas, experiences, and best teaching practices.

Around 34 sessions will be held showcasing many new OUP textbook series, digital products, and learning resources developed for pre-primary, primary, secondary, and O level. Effective teaching of subjects like English, History, Geography, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, and Urdu using these resources will be discussed in these sessions.

Trainers at the symposiums include Hayley Sutton, Eithne Gallagher, and Michael Pearson from OUP UK; Nauman Jan, Ismat Riaz, Arwa Khuzaima, Faizuddin, Shazia Asad, and Salima Hashmi from Pakistan.

In her welcome address, Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director, OUP, said, “Our purpose in holding this Teachers’ Symposium is to provide a platform where teachers from all over Pakistan can interact with each other, brainstorm, discuss common issues, and share best practices.” She further highlighted that the symposiums will generate a creative and constructive cross-fertilization of ideas which will result in improving the quality of education in the country.

Dr Shehzad Jeeva, Director, Examination Board, AKU-EB, presented the keynote address at the symposium. On 15 October, Sardar Masood Khan, the President of AJK, will be meeting the symposium participants.
