Oxford hosted a talk by Mahmood Hasan Khan

Karachi, 3 Jan.: Oxford University Press (OUP) organized a talk by Mahmood Hasan Khan, author of Participatory Rural Development in Pakistan: Experience of Rural Support Programmes published by OUP Pakistan. Mahmood Hasan Khan is Emeritus Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University, Canada. He has been a keen researcher of different aspects of agricultural and rural development, particularly in Pakistan, for over forty years. The talk was based on his book Participatory Rural Development in Pakistan which gives an account of the experiences of nine rural support programmes (RSPs) across Pakistan and how they have contributed to the uplift of marginalized rural communities. The study outlines the efforts of these RSPs in organizing over a million rural households into participatory organizations to deliver a variety of inputs and services, build physical infrastructure, enhance skills, transfer technologies, and link them with other service providers.

While introducing the author, Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director, OUP Pakistan, said that Mahmood Hasan Khan has published numerous articles in professional journals as well as authored and co-authored several books on the subject of rural development. She further added that he has worked as a consultant for international organizations like ILO, FAO, IMF, UNDP, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Islamic Development Bank.
