About Installation

1) Why do I need to install an app in my computer in order to use Achiever?

  • For higher system and data security
  • This is to make sure that all contents in Achiever can be properly viewed in any computers that meet the system requirements, disregard of the browser type and version
  • The Achiever app together with a Classroom Management Tool (CMT) will allow Achiever online tests to be easily conducted in school without any bandwidth bottleneck issues.

 

2) How do I install Achiever in my computer?

  • You may download the Achiever installer and installation guides from the following link: https://oup.com.pk/digital-learning-resources/oxford-achiever.html
  • Or you may find the installer (.exe file) and installation guides in the CD-ROM provided by Oxford University Press Pakistan.
  • Please make sure that you have read the installation guides (PDF) carefully before installing Achiever.

 

3) I have tried to install Achiever in my computer but the installation failed. What should I do?

  • Please make sure that your computer can support and run the Achiever app.
  • You may check the configuration of your computer against the recommended system configuration (especially Java is installed or not?).

About Login

1) How do I login to Achiever as a student?

  • You will be given a pre-set login ID (username) and a default password '12345678’ to login to Achiever.
  • Student login IDs can only be created by OUP upon receipt of the required student info from the school.
  • To login to Achiever for the first time:

    Open the Achiever app or click on the Achiever shortcut icon on your computer. Then type in your pre-set login ID and the default password '12345678’ and click 'Login’. You may change your password once you have successfully logged onto Achiever.

2) How do I change my Login ID and password?

  • Your login ID (username) cannot be changed once it is created. But, you may change your password anytime you have successfully logged onto Achiever.
  • Click 'My profile’ on the Achiever home page to change your password in the 'My account’ section.

 

3) How do I change my email address in Achiever?

Upon successful login, click 'My profile’ on the Achiever home page to change your email address in the 'My account’ section.

4) What should I do if I forgot my password?

For students: Please ask your teacher to reset your password. Your password will then be reset as 12345678 by default. You may then login to Achiever using your pre-set login ID and the default password '12345678'.  Click 'My profile' on the Achiever home page to change your password in the 'My account' section.

 

About account management

1) How do I make use of my Achiever account to access the system?

  • Upon successful installation, you will find an Achiever shortcut icon on your computer desktop. Double click the icon to see a pop-up login window.
  • For first time login: Key in your pre-set login ID and the default password '12345678’ and then click 'Login’.
  • Login is successful when the Achiever home page shows.
  • Click the 'English’ subject button to attempt practices in Power Practice (after you have taken the Placement Test).

 

2) Where can I look up information on my Achiever account?

Upon successful login, click 'My profile’ on the Achiever home page to see your account information in the 'My account’ section.

3) Can I use my Achiever account to login to the system on any computers?

  • Achiever supports multiple logins.
  • You may login to Achiever with your account on any computers that (i) are installed with the Achiever app and (ii) can properly run/support the app.

What exactly is Achiever?

Achiever is an 'Assessment for Learning’ system, comprising of:

  • a Placement Test that automatically sets the right starting point (level) from which each student will journey through an individualized learning path.
  • continuous formative assessments with objective-specific practices that are finely graded into 36 levels (i.e., L1-L24 for Primary 1-6 and L25-L36 for Junior Secondary 1-3).
  • immediate post-practice remediation to help students learn and achieve the target learning objectives in their next practices.
  • detailed practice reports and progress charts for students to compare their own performance and current standing against the class (section) average and/or grade (class) average.
  • real-time detailed reports for teachers to easily keep track of student progress and performance anytime.

 

About Achiever for Students

1) What can I do with Achiever?

Placement Test

  • This is a compulsory test to be taken at school (in the computer lab) before you can attempt any practices in Achiever. 
  • There is a Placement Test for each grade (class). Each test comprises three 10-minute sessions with auto-marked questions: Listening, Reading and Grammar.
  • You will be automatically assigned to a starting level in each of the six different categories (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Grammar and Vocabulary) based on your Placement Test performance. The level that you are assigned to in each of the categories reflects your current standing and it is from there that you will begin to do practices in Achiever.

Power Practice

  • Finely graded practices in 36 progressive levels of difficulty from Primary to Junior Secondary (i.e., L1-L24 for Primary 1-6 and L25-L36 for Junior Secondary 1-3).
  • Starting at the level you have attained in the Placement Test, you may freely attempt practices in any of the 6 different categories:
    Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Grammar and Vocabulary
  • Each practice is tagged to specific learning objectives defined in the local English curriculum

Power Drill

  • You may re-attempt practices at any levels below your current level in any of the categories for drilling and pre-test revisions.

Power Learning

  • You may view your own practice log history and re-visit remedial materials for all of your completed practices (with mark ≤ 60%) for reinforcement.

Progress Chart
Check your own progress, including your:

  • current level in each individual category
  • overall strengths and weaknesses
  • level promotion status
  • current standing in comparison with the level distribution within your class (section) and your grade (class), etc.

Trophy Bank
One of the learner motivation boosters in Achiever:

  • Up-a-level trophy for level promotion (Overall level)
  • Practice trophy for the hardworking students
    -Bronze trophy for completing 50 practices with practice mark ≥ 50% in each practice
    -Silver trophy for completing 100 practices with practice mark ≥ 50% in each practice
    -Gold trophy for completing 200 practices with practice mark ≥ 50% in each practice

 Wall of Fame

  • Listing of the top 10 students with the best performance in Power Practice in the last 30 days and in the latest Power Test of the current school year.

 Adventureland (Game zone)

  • By doing practices, you may gain credits (gold coins) to play games in Adventureland.

2) How do I start using Achiever?

  • You need to first take the Placement Test before you can attempt any practices in Achiever. 
  • There is a Placement Test for each grade (class).
  • Each test comprises three 10-minute sessions with auto-marked questions: Listening, Reading and Grammar.
  • You will be automatically assigned to a level in each of the six different categories (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Grammar and Vocabulary) based on their Placement Test performance. The level that you are assigned to in each of the categories reflects your current standing and it is from there that you will begin to do practices in Achiever.

 

3) How do I do practices in Achiever?

You must complete the Placement Test at school before attempting any practices in Achiever. To do Achiever practices:

  • Login to Achiever.
  • Then click the 'English’ subject button to access the Power Practice page.
  • You will find your current Overall Level on the top right-hand side of the page.
  • You will also find your current level in each of the six categories on the page.
  • Choose a category (Practices in each category are randomly generated).
  • Read carefully the practice instructions/rubric. Then click 'Start’ to begin the practice.
  • Each practice must be completed with the 20-minute time limit. The practice will be automatically submitted when time is up.
  • A post-practice Report records:
    -learning objectives tagged to the practice
    -your practice mark
    -remedial materials to be studied for the practice (under 'Suggested Revision’)
    -your answers vs. the correct answers (under 'Check Answers’)

4) Can I save what I have done in the middle of a practice and come back to finish it later?

No, each practice is considered a formative assessment with a 20-minute time limit. The practice will be automatically submitted when time is up. However, practices with mark < 60% will be made available again in Power Practice the next time you choose to do practices in the same category and at the same level.

5) I sometimes see a 'light bulb’ icon on the question page of a practice. What is it for?

  • Whenever you see the 'light bulb’ icon on the question page, it means a hint is available for the question. Click on the icon to see a pop-up box. Then click on the hyperlink in the box to read the hint.
  • Please note that if a hint is used for a correctly answered question, half of the marks for that question will be deducted.
  • You may also check the no. of hints used and the total marks deducted by click the 'Hints Used’ button on every post-practice report.

 

6) I can see some hyperlinks under 'Suggested Revision’ in the practice report. What are they for?

  • One or more hyperlinks to some post-practice remedial materials will be given under 'Suggested Revision’ in the practice report if (i) the practice mark is < 60% or (ii) less than 60% of the learning objectives is achieved in the practice.
  • Simply click the hyperlink(s) to view the remedial materials, which include PPTs and some interactive games.
  • You may also revisit the remedial materials for any completed practices (with mark < 60%) in Power Learning.

7) How can I be promoted a level up in Achiever?

You will be promoted a level up in a category by getting practice mark of ≥ 80% in three out of five consecutive practices.

8) What is Power Drill? What can I do in Power Drill?

You may re-attempt practices at any levels below your current level in any of the categories for drilling purpose and pre-test revisions.

9) Why can’t I do practices at the current level in Power Drill?

  • For drilling purpose and pre-test revisions, Power Drill allows you to revisit and redo the practices that you have already completed at any levels below your current level.
  • Go to Power Practice to attempt new practices at your current level in any of the six categories.

 

10) What is Power Learning? What can I do in Power Learning?

  • You may view in Power Learning your own practice log history by date, category, level, learning objective and mark.
  • You may also revisit remedial materials for all of your completed practices (with mark  < 60%) for reinforcement.

11) How do I keep track of my standing and progress?

Click 'Progress Chart’ in Power Practice, Power Drill and/or Power Learning to view your practice results, including your:

  • current level in each individual category
  • overall strengths and weaknesses
  • level promotion status
  • current standing in comparison with and level distribution within the class (section) and grade (class), etc.

12) How do I compare my performance against that of other students in my class (section) or grade (class)?

  • Click 'Progress Chart’ in Power Practice, Power Drill and/or Power Learning to view the Progress Comparison bar chart showing level distribution within your class (section) and grade (class), etc. for each of the six different categories.
  • You may also compare your current standing against the class (section) average and grade (class) average in the bar chart.

 

13) I noticed on the Power Practice page that I have gained a number of gold coins. What can I use these gold coins for?

  •  You will gain game credits (gold coins) by doing practices in Power Practice and Power Drill. (See the following table for more details)
  •  You may go into Adventureland to play mini games with your game credits.
